NCCU v. Northern Illinois / NCCU v. Quinnipac / NCCU v. Franklin and Marshall
ORLANDO, FLA. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) – Senior and junior duo Alejandro Espitia and Jose Fabara dominated the No. 2 doubles slot for North Carolina Central University as they went undefeated in racket-to-racket action during the Eagles three-day play in Orlando, Fla., against Northern Illinois, Quinnipac and Franklin and Marshall on March 12-15.
The mighty maroon departs Florida with a weekday record of 1-2 against the three participating teams.
On Monday, March 12 in a 6-1 loss to Northern Illinois, senior Jack Waissen tallied the only singles win with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over Roman Turtygin, as Jose Fabara and Alejandro Espitia defeated Turtygin and Maksym Lagutin 8-4 in doubles play.
During Tuesday competition, Fabara and Fabrice George tallied singles wins in a 5-2 loss to Quinnipac. Fabara defeated Garrett Lane 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (3) as the No. 3 singles player, while George notched a 6-1, 7-6 (3) win over John Petrini at the No. 4 singles spot. No. 2 doubles partners Fabara and Espitia clinched their second doubles win 8-3 over James Kwei and Alex Lazerowich.
The maroon and gray concluded its Florida action by clutching a 5-2 victory over Franklin and Marshall, where NCCU dropped two singles matches and one doubles match.
Espitia beat Tommy Weibye 7-6 (1-0), 6-3, as Fabara defeated William MacArthur 6-4, 6-3, Tamina Kienka beat Cameron Relic 6-2, 7-5 and Jamal Hoyte overpowered Alec Tunner 5-2, 7-5 for the four NCCU singles wins.
Espitia and Fabara sealed their undefeated doubles play with a 9-8 (8) win over Nolan Bacchieri and Weibye, while Kienka and Hoyte beat Peter Bookman and Relic 9-6 (6).
The mighty maroon returns to action on Saturday, March 17 with the second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup of the season against Florida A&M on the NCCU Tennis Courts at 10:00 a.m.
