DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - The North Carolina Central University men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2011 campaign with the annual 4K Duke Dual meet on Thursday, Sept. 1 on the Sally Meyerhoff Fitness Loop, located on the Al Buehler Trail, in Durham N.C.
Making a strong first impression for NCCU was the performance of freshmen Amber Brooks, who proved she is able and ready to compete at the Division I level. Brooks finished the day in third place with a time of 15 minutes and 40 second, less than a minute behind Duke’s first place finisher, Cydney Ross.
Senior Dreanna Wallace was the next member of the Lady Eagles squad to reach the finish line coming in 7th place with a time of 16:04.
On the men’s side, senior Jamar Jones finished on top for the Eagles, completing the race in 16:11 for a 9th place finish.
The NCCU Cross Country teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 11, as they take on the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University during the NCCU/N.C. A&T Cross Country Relay in Durham, N.C., at 9:00 a.m.
