Question: How did you end up at NCCU?
David Ingram: “My high school coach told me about a tryout NCCU was having because they were going into the transition. My father took me down here after Mose Rison was just hired. I submitted my film to them and waited for a call. I received a call in about March telling me I could be a preferred walk on. I redshirted my freshman year, and ended up starting the last five games of my second year because the junior in front of me got injured; and I’ve been starting ever since.”
Q: What is your major and what do you want to do after graduation?
DI: “My major is business administration with a concentration in management. Upon graduation I plan on getting my master’s degree in information systems. I’m currently preparing myself to take the GRE and I would like to be a graduate assistant football coach somewhere, depending on what’s available.”
Q: What has been your most memorable moment at NCCU?
DI: “When we played North Carolina A&T in my first season (2008 in Charlotte), I just came off an injury. We were up 21-0 and they fought back. It was 27-28 and we stopped them on a fourth down conversion in their final drive. I didn’t play much, but I was in on that last drive and that sealed the game. So I felt as though I was a part of winning the game.”
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals?
DI: “I have worn the same Under Armour in every game for the past four years, and it is starting to get worn down. They boys are telling me to stop wearing it.”
Q: If you could invite any person to W.G. Pearson Cafeteria for lunch, who would it be?
DI: “My grandmother, Rose Ingram, my father’s mother. She passed away four years ago. But when I was younger I told her I wanted to be a millionaire, and she said she was going to be my manager. So I would love for her to see how far I have come in the past four years.”
Q: Who is your favorite athlete?
DI: “I admire Champ Bailey of the Washington Redskins. That’s my favorite corner back. I actually got a chance to get his autograph, but the funny thing is that I didn’t have anything for him to sign, so I took the shirt off my back, handed it to him and he signed it. I still have that shirt.”
Q: When did you start playing football?
DI: “I was playing basketball in the third grade and my coach came to me and said, ‘Man, you have very broad shoulders. You should come out and play football.’ My father said, ‘We’ll sign him up and have him out there in the fall.’ That’s how I got my start.”
Q: What do you like most about football?
DI: "I like the fans. The feeling you get from the fans and the people around you. I just love to see people smile and see them cheer. I love the festivities surrounding football."
Q: Who is your sports hero?
DI: "I do admire Champ Bailey from the Washington Redskins. He’s my favorite corner back. I actually got a chance to get his autograph, but the funny thing is that I didn’t have anything for him to sign, so I took the shirt off my back, handed it to him and he signed it. I still have that shirt."
Q: How would you like NCCU fans to remember David Ingram?
DI: “As a player who loved the program, played hard every Saturday, always wanted to win, and was willing to go the extra mile to make a play for the team.”
