DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University freshman outside hitter Dayanna Arrufat has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for August 2011 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments on the court.
The Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico native tops the Eagles hitting effort with 69 kills with eight matches under her belt. Arrufat, who has started all 27 sets this season, led the squad with 17 kills and just eight errors in a four-set loss to Florida Gulf Coast during the Hilton RTP/ NCCU Volleyball Tournament on August 26-27. Arrufat was voted to the All-Tournament by the participating coaches from her outstanding performance during the tournament. The maroon and gray newcomer is second in digs with 42 digs thus far.
Arrufat is a biology major, who enjoys writing, singing, listening to music and going to the beach, wants to become a Forensic Pathologist.
