DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University junior catcher Andrea Searls has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for July 2011 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the diamond as a member of the softball team.

The Oceanside, Calif., native topped the Eagles with 32 hits during the 2011 campaign and was second on the squad with a .319 slugging percentage. Searls, who started 42 of the team’s 44 games behind the plate, batted.269 with 12 runs scored, four doubles and a triple to her credit.

An athletic training major, Searls carries a grade point average above a 3.0 and also worked as an athletic training student for the NCCU football team.
