NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: TIERRA BUTLER

Four-Year Varsity Cheerleader Graduates with 3.738 Grade Point Average

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University cheerleader Tierra Butler has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for June 2011 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the classroom, in the community, and as a member of the NCCU cheerleading program.

The Roseboro, N.C., native graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry after serving as a four-year member of the varsity cheerleading squad.

She took part in a multitude of community service initiatives this year, including “Welcome Back to School” at C. C. Spaulding Elementary School, “Million Meals” at Southern High School, “Cheer Camp” with East Chapel Hill High School, and as a volunteer at the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club.

During her tenure at NCCU, Butler was a Chancellor’s Scholar and member of the University Honors Program. She wrapped up her collegiate academic career with an overall grade point average of 3.738.

Butler will continue her academic and career pursuits at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy starting in the fall.
