DURHAM, N.C. – Mike Charlton has resigned as the head softball coach at North Carolina Central University.
The Lady Eagles concluded the 2011 season on Sunday with an overall record of 7-37. In Charlton’s four seasons as NCCU’s softball head coach, the Lady Eagles earned 22 wins and recorded 163 losses.
“We thank Coach Charlton for his leadership in guiding the softball program through the Division I transition,” said NCCU Director of Athletics Dr. Ingrid Wicker-McCree. “We appreciate his efforts and his dedication to the softball program, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”
The search for Charlton’s replacement will begin immediately, with a plan to announce a new head softball coach by July 1. NCCU Associate Athletics Director Etienne Thomas, the sport administrator for the softball program, will assume responsibility of day-to-day softball operations until a new head coach is hired.
