NCCU STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE MONTH: SHANTEL MOORE

Moore makes history as first MEAC All-Tournament Team Recipient

DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University senior Shantel Moore has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2011 in recognition to her outstanding contributions to the Eagles volleyball team.

In the month of November, the senior from Westmoreland, Jamaica, achieved seven double-figure kill outings over eight matches to guide the squad to two straight regular-season conference wins before its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament appearance on Nov. 18.

Prior to the MEAC Tournament, Moore achieved a six-game .210 hitting percentage with 71 kills on 187 attempts with 32 errors, while amassing 36 digs, 16 total blocks, nine assists and nine service aces.  The outside hitter achieved a season-high four services and five total blocks in a four-set (26-24, 25-22, 24-26, 25-17) loss to Florida A&M on Sunday, Nov. 6, along with season-highs of 15 kills and nine digs in a five-set (26-24, 19-25, 24-26, 25-22, 15-12) loss to Bethune-Cookman on Friday, Nov. 4.

In the five-set battle against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore during the MEAC Tournament, Moore hit .230 percent with 13 kills on 35 attempts with only four errors, while serving two service aces, gathering four digs and three total blocks.  Despite her outstanding effort, the
Eagles suffered a 25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-7 loss.

Moore became the first NCCU women’s volleyball student-athlete on the MEAC All-Tournament Team on Nov. 20.

Moore is a physical education major at NCCU and on her way to graduating in May 2012.
