NCCU’S RAY WILLIS NAMED MEAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Junior averaged 22.5 points in two NCCU wins last week

DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – After his performance in two wins last week, North Carolina Central University junior Ray Willis (Atlanta, Ga.) has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s basketball Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday.
 
Willis averaged 22.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals to lead NCCU to a pair of non-conference wins last week.  Against Morris College, Willis went a perfect 8-for-8 from the field and was 8-for-10 from the free-throw line to finish with a season-high 24 points in the Eagles 112-50 victory.  He also added four assists, four steals, three rebounds, and two blocked shots while playing 25 minutes.
 
In the 104-55 win over Barber-Scotia College on Saturday, Nov. 26, Willis nearly recorded his first NCCU double-double with a 19-point, nine rebound effort.
 
The 6-6, 164 pound guard scored in double figures in each of the first six ballgames, including  20-plus points in three straight games.  He currently sits fourth in the MEAC in scoring, averaging 18.8 points a game, No. 1 in field goal percentage shooting 64.8 percent on the year, fourth in steals with 2.3 per game, and fifth in blocked shots with 1.8 rejections a game.
 
The Eagles (3-3) look to stretch the win streak to three on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. as NCCU hosts Southern Wesleyan University inside the friendly confines of McDougald-McLendon Gym.
