Question: What is your major and what do you want to do after NCCU?
James Frye: “My major is business management. I want to get into coaching, so maybe graduate school. Later in life I’d like to run my own business - some kind of sports bar, maybe somewhere in Georgia or Pennsylvania.”

Q: What do you like most about being an NCCU Eagle?
JF: “The athletics. The family that we have bonded through football, even through the bad times. There are several guys, if not all of them, on the team that I can depend on whether it’s football related or life in general.”

Q: Offensive linemen typically do not get much recognition, and when they do it is often for a penalty. So what’s glory for an offensive lineman?
JF: “Scoring quick so we can catch our breath (laughs). Nah, for me, it’s knowing that without the offensive line nothing on the offense works. Having that responsibility is part of what drives me. To know that I am better than the man in front of me, knowing that I have to win my battle or else nothing gets done.”

Q: Why football?
JF: “I was too short to play basketball (laughs). Actually, basketball was my true love, but I do love football. I guess the biggest reason is I get to hit people and not get in trouble. When I was young, that’s what got me to like football. I like the aggression of it.”

Q: If you could invite any living person to WG Pearson cafeteria for lunch, who would it be and why?
JF: “It would have to be my Dad. He has always been there for me for whatever I have needed. My Dad is my best friend. For my Dad to come and experience what I do here besides football would be good.”

Q: What has been your most memorable moment at NCCU?
JF: “I’d have to say getting the opportunity to play Rutgers. We came out on the losing end, but just the experience and opportunity to see where my skills were, and as a team.”

Q: What is your favorite part of game day at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium?
JF: “Running out of the tunnel to our fans. To see the people behind us and the support that we have.”

Q: You have been a four-year starter at center. That’s impressive. How were you able to accomplish that feat?
JF: “That was my main thing coming out of high school is, ‘I am not riding the bench. I have to play.’ Before I went through my first camp, I told myself that I was going to start. And the work I put in has paid off.”.

Q: Tell me something interesting about yourself that others may not know.
JF: “My dream was to play college basketball for Duke, ever since I was five years old when I saw them play on TV. The reality set in during my sophomore year (in high school) when I didn’t get any taller. (laughs)”

Q: How would you like to be remembered from your playing days at NCCU?
JF: “As a hard worker. Knowing that every game day I went out there and gave every bit I had. I was not always perfect, but I gave everything I had.”

Q: What three words best describe you?
JF: Passion. Leader. Dedicated.
