Geovonie Irvine has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2011 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the gridiron.
The Durham, N.C., native leads NCCU and ranks second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with five touchdowns scored, all coming in four games during the month of September. Irvine tops the Eagles with 19 receptions for 235 yards and four touchdown catches. He also returned a kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Savannah State game on Sept. 24.
On Sept. 10 versus Central State in the “Cleveland Classic,” Irvine became the 13th Eagle in school history to record 100 career receptions. In that contest, he collected seven catches for 86 yards and two trips to the end zone.
Irvine is a recreation administration major at NCCU.
