DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) - North Carolina Central University senior Chavaria Williams has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2010 in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the track as a member of the track & field team.

A native of Miramar, Fla., Williams repeated as the champion in the women’s 400-meter dash at the Christopher Newport University Indoor Track & Field Holiday Open on Dec. 5 in Newport News, Va., with a winning time of 57.39 seconds. She also captured second-place honors as a member of NCCU’s 4x400m relay squad during the team’s only competition in December.

A mass communications major, Williams has maintained a grade point average above 3.0 during her academic career at NCCU.

During the fall semester, Williams also completed an internship in athletics media relations at NCCU, where her many tasks included writing stories for the website and operating instant replay controls on the football stadium’s new video scoreboard.
