Landon Clement has been named the Nationwide Insurance NCCU Student-Athlete of the Month for November 2010 in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments on the hardwood as a member of the men’s basketball team.
In five games during the month of November, Clement topped the Eagles in scoring with an average of 17.6 points per contest. The 6-2, 180-pound sharpshooter made a team-best 31 field goals, including an amazing 20-of-44 three-point shot attempts. He also led the team in minutes played, averaging 34.6 minutes per contest, while adding 17 rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
In his first game as an Eagle against Johnson & Wales on Nov. 12, Clement connected on 5-of-10 field goals, including 4-of-9 from long range, for 15 points, to go along with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Three days later in Norman, Okla., Clement sparked NCCU to a near upset over the Oklahoma Sooners. He nailed 6-of-9 shots from behind the arc and tallied a team-high 22 points as the Eagles led Oklahoma the entire second half until a game-tying three-pointer by the Sooners sent the game into overtime.
Clement capped the month with a game-high 24 points during a 96-81 home victory over Allen University on Nov. 27.
A sociology major, Clement transferred to NCCU from UNC Greensboro by way of Sanderson High School in Raleigh, N.C.
